Terracotta is a clay-like earthenware ceramic that can be either glazed or unglazed. The word “terracotta” comes from the Italian words for “baked earth.”
Ceramic tiles are made from natural clay, sand and water. These materials are moulded to form square or rectangular tiles and then baked in a kiln to remove most of the moisture.
Our artisans delight in painting bespoke hand painted tiles which enable us to offer you a chance to commission a unique design on ceramic tiles. Your individual idea for a design is created and then hand painted on to the ceramic tile for kitchen and bathroom walls.
Unique designs- Designs can be created from your sketch, ideas, photos or textiles to make it truly bespoke. We will match colours as best we can with our colour range, just please bear in mind that all ceramic paints and glazes can change slightly when in the kiln which is part of the unique hand painted result.
Once the tiles are hand painted, they are then individually glazed by hand, allowed to dry and then are fired in the kiln. Thus, creating bespoke hand painted tiles. The secret of handmade hand painted tiles is their individuality and uniqueness, if you want the handmade look on the tiles also, please remember that they are made by hand and therefore may vary slightly in size and are not always perfectly square nor perfectly flat because they are not made by a machine!
Tile sizes – the blank ceramic tiles are 10cm, 6cm or 8cm square or 20x10cm
